If you use Bitwarden, check this setting NOW
The popular password manager may have you in a less secure mode
Problem: Bitwarden uses a lower number of key iterations to decrypt your data in certain cases. This may be due to lower end device use or a failure in increasing keys from their side as key iteration recommendations have increased. In layman’s terms, their default settings may leave your data less protected with a lower number of key iterations done. This can be problematic in the case of a data breach.
Quick Fix: Log into your web vault (you must do this on the website, not via the app), click on the top-right dropdown menu, then Account settings > Security > Keys.
Update to 600,000 iterations. Your account might already be at this setting if you signed up recently. For older accounts, this might be set at as low as 5,000 or 350,000 depending on when your account was created.
Try logging in via the app to see how it affects your particular device. If it is too slow, you can decrease the number if really needed. You can try larger numbers if your device is fast enough.
If you do not use a password manager, this may be a good time to start. We will have an article on password managers coming out in the next newsletter.
